BJJ
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to submit the opponent.

MMA
Mixed Martial Arts
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows both striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground, using techniques from other combat sports and martial arts.

Wrestling
Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, takedowns, joint locks, pins & other grappling holds. The goal is to control the opponent and limit the force they can exert on you. A wide range of styles with varying rules & backgrounds are covered in TriStar to minimize weaknesses & blindspots in our game

Muay Thai & Kickboxing
Muay Thai & Kickboxing are effective striking martial arts which use the fluid integration of punches, kicks, knees and elbows to fight from a distance and standing. At Tristar, we focus on perfecting the stance, technique and delivery of fluid combinations.
Classes end with a circuit where you get to push your cardio to the limit.

Boxing
Boxing is a fist-to-fist combat sport where you get to ‘dance’ with your opponent. At Tristar, we put an emphasis on footwork & the ability to take, dodge & throw fluid punching combinations.

Firas Zahabi
Firas Zahabi
Trainer
Firas Zahabi is in large part what makes Tristar Gym a special place. His approach, uncommon in a sport that is often rife with emotion and ingrained practices, is exceptionally analytical, in-depth and innovative.
As the head coach for UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, Zahabi knows how to build an MMA champion.
“I always loved martial arts more than I loved fighting. I didn’t do martial arts because I wanted to be famous or because I wanted to win a tournament. I always did it because I was fascinated with the art.”
“People don’t know their history, Some people are born warriors. And those warriors, we need them. They have a place in our society. Let them play football, let them play basketball, let them box, let them do MMA. They’re born with that.”
